Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Works with other team members to solve difficult technical, engineering related problems. Supports or leads continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions and cost reduction projects. Supports drive to fundamental process understanding and lowest cost producer objectives. Supports the development and execution of plans to evaluate new technology or improvements in existing technology resulting in a superior product in terms of quality and/or cost. Understands Corning's Intellectual property management processes and follows that process in documenting any intellectual property developed as part of a project

Key Responsibilities

Analyze data to understand process capability and monitor process trends
Provide problem solving support to operations and maintenance
Identify and manage process improvement and cost reduction projects 
Interface with operations personnel and various engineering groups
Prepare cost justifications and capital requests for new equipment. 
Oversee all aspects of bringing new equipment into production.
Develop maintenance/operator training documentation
Establish/manage product qualification plans.
Support transfer of new cabling technology, materials, and processes from development to production
Work with & train maintenance and support personnel

Travel:  <10%

Hours of work:  

M-F, 8am - 5pm
Support off shift as needed

Experiences/Education - Required

Required Education: BS or MS in Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace, or Physics

Required Skills:

• Creative/innovative problem solving
• Strong technical fundamentals with process engineering skills
• Basic data analysis
• Ability to write technical documents
• Ability to interpret and create drawing packages (AutoCAD)

Experiences/Education - Desired

• Experience with Statistical packages such as OriginPro or Minitab
• 2-4 years manufacturing experience
• Skill with Structured Problem Solving such as DMAIC or PDCA
• Knowledge of plastic extrusion
• Six Sigma Greenbelt
• Project Management experience
• Experience with statistical process control fundamentals

The range for this position is $83,750.00 - $115,156.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
