General Counsel/Chief Compliance Officer 

Reports To: CEO

Position Overview 
General Counsel/Chief Compliance Officer (GC/CCO) leads the company’s legal and compliance functions. This dual-role executive will be responsible for overseeing all legal matters, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and mitigating risk across the organization. The GC/CCO will be a trusted advisor to the leadership team, providing strategic legal counsel and maintaining a robust compliance framework to support business operations and growth. 

Key Responsibilities 

Legal Leadership: 

  • Serve as the primary legal advisor to the CEO, leadership team, and board of directors. 

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including vendor agreements, loan documents, and partnership agreements. 

  • Manage litigation and disputes, coordinating with external counsel as needed. 

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, including those specific to the manufactured housing and financial services industries. 

  • Provide legal oversight on mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructuring activities. 

  • Develop and implement corporate governance policies and ensure compliance with them. 

Compliance Oversight: 

  • Design, implement, and oversee a comprehensive compliance program aligned with applicable regulations, including but not limited to CFPB, HUD, and other financial regulatory bodies. 

  • Monitor and assess regulatory changes affecting manufactured housing and financial services and ensure organizational adherence. 

  • Conduct compliance audits, identify gaps, and implement corrective actions. 

  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on compliance policies and procedures. 

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies and manage audits, examinations, and inquiries. 

Risk Management: 

  • Identify legal and compliance risks and develop mitigation strategies. 

  • Establish and maintain a risk management framework, ensuring alignment with business objectives. 

  • Advise on matters related to intellectual property, data privacy, and cybersecurity. 

Leadership and Collaboration: 

  • Lead and mentor legal and compliance teams, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, finance, and sales, to align legal and compliance strategies with business goals. 

  • Serve as a strategic partner in decision-making, providing legal and compliance perspectives on business initiatives. 

Qualifications 

Education and Experience: 

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. 

  • Active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. 

  • Minimum 8–10 years of legal experience, with a focus on financial services, manufactured housing, or real estate. 

  • Experience in a dual role as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer preferred. 

Knowledge and Skills 

  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state regulations governing financial services and manufactured housing, including CFPB, RESPA, HUD, and state licensing laws. 

  • Strong expertise in contract negotiation, corporate law, and compliance program development. 

  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. 

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all organizational levels.
