For more information on the Department, and how we make an impact on the world in enabling the achievement of SDGs, visit: This internship opportunity is located in the Office of the Under-Secretary-General (OUSG), in the Strategic Planning Service (SPS), in the Strategic Planning Unit (SPU), within UNDSS. The role of SPU is to support Senior Management on key substantive issues related to strategic planning of the Department. SPS contributes to UNDSS' efforts to enable the implementation of the United Nations mandate while ensuring safety and security of United Nations personnel. The duration of the internship is for a period of three (3) to six (6) months, depending on the needs of the Department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days (35 hours) per week under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned. This internship is designed to be in person and full-time (35 hours or more). It may be adjusted to part-time (less than 34 hours) upon request of the successful candidate. The internship can be adapted to accommodate hybrid arrangements (20 hours per week), on an exceptional basis. Depending on the situation of the successful candidates, the internship may also be conducted remotely and/or in part time upon request of the successful candidates Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of a Programme Management Officer, the intern will work in close collaboration with the Strategic Planning Unit, ensuring timely support in carrying out normative work of the Unit which includes the Department's Performance Measurement, Enterprise Risk Management, Future Insight & Innovation and other cross-cutting areas of programme management, research and analysis. Within assigned authority, the intern is expected to undertake the following duties: • Support in a review of available documents and research to contribute to the development and management of the Department's corporate key performance indicators (KPI); • Help build, process, organize and transcribe structured surveys to support evidence-based decision-making and internal consensus building; • Support and assist the team with the development of dashboards and visualizations for senior managers and provide user support; • Assist with ad-hoc analysis and reporting needs by helping validate, process and organize datasets; • Assist in the maintenance of the Performance Measurement Dashboard on a regular basis; • Support the transition to more automated, sustainable and robust data pipelines in the Microsoft Azure cloud environment; • Conduct research, compile information from different sources and assist with preparation of background documents as requested; • Assist in preparing for meetings with partners; • Contribute to data entry, updating database and programme related documents; • Assist in editing and revision of reports, briefs and other documents as needed; • Assist in drafting correspondence, talking points, reports and presentations; • Assist with preparation and dissemination of materials including meeting notes and reports; • Fulfill other duties as required. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above). Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D.
