Role Overview

This is an Archaeology Team Lead/Manager position in the Indiana Department of Transportation Cultural Resources Office. This position supervises a staff of three archaeologists, manages INDOT's on-call archaeology contracts, and serves as a primary contact and subject matter expert for INDOT personnel, consultants, the Federal Highway Administration, other state agencies, and consulting parties. Applicants should have supervisory/management experience, experience in interpreting and applying Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and other historic preservation laws, MUST meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards as per 36 CFR Part 61, and must meet or soon meet the State of Indiana's requirements for a Qualified Professional Principal Investigator as per 312 IAC 21-3-4(b).

Location

This position is located in INDOT’s Indianapolis Central Office, Cultural Resources Office.

 

Salary :

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $67,314.00. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience. 

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Directly supervise a staff performing supervisory administrative duties.
  • Schedule work assignments, sets priorities, directs, and reviews work, trains new employees, hires new employees and participates in grievance procedures.
  • Responsible for implementing and administering programs, contracts, or other activities to obtain and or maintain compliance with environmental laws and regulations regarding hazardous material or waste management, immediate spill or leak response, long-term remedial actions, water discharge permits, air quality permits, underground storage tanks and all other programs as it pertains to environmental compliance at facilities located throughout the state.
  • Coordinate activities with the federal supervisory environmental specialist and federal or state regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate on-site inspections with regulatory agencies and follows-up with appropriate documentation.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate necessary environmental data-gathering actions, studies, field investigations or remedial actions.
  • Identify project funding requirements and prepares contract statements of work.
  • Act as liaison and or point-of-contact between regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

  • Knowledge of sampling procedures and quality assurance protocols.
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
